Support Beyond GJA

High School placement is an integral part of our program and begins in seventh grade with initial school visits, test prep, mock interview practice, and a preview of the high school admissions process.

In the summer leading up to and fall of eighth grade, we provide comprehensive support throughout the process of identifying and applying to independent day, boarding, parochial, and public high schools. High school placement support includes:

ONGOING GUIDANCE TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

We are in constant touch with families and students to explore and select a range of schools that fit each individual’s personality, strengths and interests. We answer questions throughout the entire process beginning in the spring of seventh grade through the end of eighth grade, including applications, interviews, essays, and financial aid.

FACILITATION OF VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON VISITS

We support and help arrange school visits as students begin to explore different high schools in New York City and beyond.

MOCK INTERVIEW PRACTICE AND ESSAY EDITING

We provide 2-4 interview practice rounds for all students and also offer additional feedback and editing for high school essays.

EXPLANATION AND SUPPORT FOR FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS

We guide families and students through the complex financial aid applications required for independent, parochial and boarding schools.

ADVOCACY WITH SCHOOLS

We have relationships with high schools and advocate on behalf of our students when we know that one of our GJA boys would be a great fit.

TRANSITION WORKSHOPS

The transition from middle to high school can be a challenging one. We support our boys in anticipation of this transition through a workshop series that explores and allows for discussion of some of the components of the leap to high school.

ALUMNI NETWORK ADVICE

We facilitate connections to alumni (and their parents) who have attended high schools of interest so students can get a first-hand account from one of their older GJA Brothers.
