GJA's Associate Board of Trustees

The George Jackson Academy Associate Board is an engaged group of young professionals committed to supporting the mission of GJA through volunteerism, fundraising, and advocacy. Members of the Associate Board play a vital role in expanding the school’s reach and impact by using their skills, networks, and resources to further our mission of providing a high-quality education to boys from underserved communities.

The Associate Board has hosted many initiatives over the years. From a wine & cheese night, to a pickleball tournament, to breakfast events for the students, the Associate Board has creatively interacted with the students while creating new friends of the school.

If you're interested in joining or learning more about their initiatives, read below for more info!

This Year's Initiatives

AB Breakfasts

Every year, the Associate Board will host a breakfast for each grade. It gives them a chance to mingle with one another and gives the student's some insight into why people support the school and what that looks like. Students of GJA really look forward to the event and often ask teachers and admin when it's going to happen!

Fund an all-school trip to a Ballet

Over the summer, GJA students partook in a program called Robotics in Motion (click here to watch the FOX5 feature). This program intertwined coding and ballet in what was ultimately an amazing opportunity for the students. The GJA boys who participated site it as the moment their passion for dance (or robotics) came to life. This Spring, the GJA Associate Board is looking to fund a trip to the Ballet so every student can attend.

Enable a handful of students to join a travel basketball team

GJA doesn't have a sports program. We know, an all boys school without a sports program? Because space is limited and sports costs are rising, there are usually many barriers to entry for our boys when it comes to recreations sports. That is why the Associate Board wants to fund a handful of boys joining an AAU team! They will be able to play alongside their brothers and would represent what is, GJA's first ever basketball team!
